Central Coast New Year’s Resolutions

As the first full week of the new year gets underway, many are hoping to usher in positive changes. According to one poll, being “a better person” tops the list of New Year’s resolutions. A study done by Statistic Brain found that 45 percent of Americans make New Year’s resolutions but only eight percent ever achieve them. The firm also found that most resolution makers give up by mid-February. The reasons vary. Many of the people we spoke with on Monday said they didn’t make resolutions for themselves. “I don’t really plan too far ahead. I try to stay within months and try to achieve that first,” said Salinas resident Saul Gama. Residents do have resolutions for the Central Coast though. One long time local wishes for a return to the small town feel he remembers. “I feel like it’s getting crowded here,” said resident Fabian Aguilar. “I remember when it used to be a small place. It was a little bit homey.” Ricardo Padilla hopes to see a decrease in the kind of crime that made headlines in 2016. “The violence, most definitely the violence,” he said. “I’m only 18, I’ve seen my best friend get shot. It’s pretty sad.” Experts say, no matter what you may hope for, there are guidelines that will help you achieve your goals: Make goals that are achievable Stick to one goal, then move to another Track your progress Don’t be too hard on yourself if you fail. You can always start over again!
