Woman arrested in rental scam bust

She required an upfront security deposit on the house she was renting. The problem? There was never any house.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office posted pictures Monday of a deputy arresting Ann Howard on numerous counts of grand theft. Deputies say Howard posted ads on Craigslist offering a home for rent. The house didn’t exist and Howard would disappear with the money.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Howard was identified as a suspect during an investigation that spanned several months.
