Bill Murray praises Marina…or does he?
Actor Bill Murray has a lot of good things to say about the city of Marina and its residents. Only Murray knows, however, if the story is true.
Local Facebook users shared and reacted to a post Friday by Newsdaily12.com, in which the actor praised several Marina residents for helping him after his car broke down.
Murray is quoted in the article saying, “I’m telling you, these people in Marina are the real deal. I’m gonna move there after I retire.”
The story got positive comments and reactions on Facebook, but might not stand the “fake news” test.
Newsdaily12.com, describes itself as a satirical entertainment website. A disclaimer on the site reads: “The articles on newsdaily12.com are not real. They’re meant to be humorous and they’re for your entertainment. It’s satire.”
The story is plausible on some levels. Murray has visited the Monterey Peninsula numerous times, notably for golf events, and it’s possible his rental car could have broken down in Marina. It’s also possible that several local residents came to his aid and took him to lunch.
At the same time, it’s possible a satirical website just wanted a few more clicks.
