Salinas deputy police chief to retire this week
After performing nearly every conceivable duty over a 32-year career in law enforcement, Deputy Chief Dan Perez will retire from the Salinas Police Department this Friday, December 30, 2016.
Perez joined the Salinas Police Department in 1992 and rose to the rank of corporal in 1993, sergeant (1994), lieutenant (2001) and commander (2005). In 2013, he attained the rank of deputy chief.
During his career with the Salinas police, he managed units and programs in all three divisions of the police department: Patrol, Investigations and Administration. He served as a patrol officer, field training officer and SWAT team member.
Prior to joining the Salinas Police Department, Perez was a deputy with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
Perez is a Salinas native and a graduate of Alisal High School. He holds degrees from Hartnell College, the University of San Francisco, and Chapman University.
He has been active in the community, volunteering in youth sports and serving on the boards of local non-profit agencies.
The Salinas Police Department will hold a final briefing for him on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016 in the City Hall Rotunda.
