Young man hurt after overnight shooting in Salinas

A young man is hurt after being shot in Salinas overnight. It happened just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday when ShotSpotter, a new gunshot detection system, reported seven shots in the 900 block of Rider Avenue. Officers say the 21-year-old victim was in his car when he was approached by two unknown men. They asked the victim where he was from and opened fire, hitting him twice in the torso. The victim was taken to the hospital by a family member, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
