Numerous defects found on Polar Express tracks

During Thursday ‘s Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission meeting, Deputy Director Luis Mendez shared new details on track problems that forced the suspension of the Santa Cruz Polar Express. Mendez told commission members there were 32 defects on the rail line and recommended violations for two paperwork-related issues. However, Mendez explained those defects are not considered violations by the Federal Railroad Administration. Iowa Pacific Holdings operates the Polar Express franchise throughout the United States and Canada. Steve Hill, VP & Chief Engineer at IPH attended the meeting and was available to answer questions for commission members. During the meeting, no one asked Hill any questions about those violations and he did not stop to answer questions from reporters.

KION is in contact with the public relations firm representing the Polar Express and waiting to find out more information.
