Wharf plan draws criticism

Today is the deadline for community comment on the proposed Wharf Master Plan in Santa Cruz and opposition seems to be growing.

By Wednesday afternoon, over 1,700 people had signed an online petition objecting to various parts of the $40 million plan.

The “Don’t Morph the Wharf” petition cites concerns over plans for 2-story structures on the wharf, increased commercial space, environmental issues and potential effects on wildlife.

The petition also asks for a full Environmental Impact Report before any construction begins.

The Santa Cruz City Council will take up the issue on Nov. 22nd.
