New Pacific Grove whale sculpture draws complaints
Over a period of weeks, an artist with a chainsaw transformed the trunks of two trees in a Pacific Grove park into a sculpture of two whales. Now that the project is complete, some city residents say they don’t like the finished version.
The City Council heard complaints Wednesday night about the sculpture in Berwick Park. Some said they don’t like the way it’s painted. Others think it should be protected by a fence.
The city is expected to ask the artist to make some adjustments to the paint job, and will work to develop a new public art policy by early next year to manage future projects.
