Moratorium on commercial pot grows in Santa Cruz County
A 45-day moratorium banning any commercial recreational marijuana grows in Santa Cruz County is taking effect. On Tuesday , the Board of Supervisors approved the moratorium unanimously.
County Supervisor John Leopold said last week’s voter approval of Prop 64, legalizing recreational marijuana, ushered in a whole new set of concerns. Leopold says the hold will allow the county time to come up with a plan to regulate recreational marijuana grows.
The county is still working on a draft ordinance for commercial cannabis cultivation and processing licenses for business looking to grow once the county law is approved.
