Bike, boat, swim escape fails

Early last week, Monterey Police tried to detain a suspected burglar in the downtown area. He ran and escaped.

On Saturday, police spotted him again on the recreation trail. This time he fled on a bicycle, jumped into the harbor and tried to row away in a stolen boat. It didn’t work.

Adrian Chronister, 26, of Pacific Grove was pulled from the water by police officers and Coast Guard personnel and arrested on a number of charges.

Police say Chronister is on felony probation and is a suspect in several commercial burglaries being investigated by the Monterey and Pacific Grove police departments, and the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team.

In addition to burglary charges, he is charged with obstructing/resisting an officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, attempted threat of a vessel, and probation violation.
