Titans of Mavericks window opens
The surfing world was put on notice Tuesday: The five-month window for the Titans of Mavericks big wave competition is open.
The contest window runs from Nov 1, 2016 – Mar 31 , 2017 at the Mavericks surf break at Half Moon Bay, south of San Francisco.
When conditions are right, organizers will put out the call to 24 professional surfers selected for the invitation-only competition.
According the Titans of Mavericks website, the competition is held only when conditions produce the biggest, most dangerous waves. In past competitions, waves have reached 60 feet in height, containing enough force to be recorded on the Richter scale.
