Salinas mom fakes caring for daughter using state money

Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo announced that Salinas mom Melissa Abbey, 35, was ordered to pay $15,125 in restitution to the state as part of a fraud investigation.

According to prosecutors, Abbey received money from Monterey County In Home Support Services to provide care to her daughter. She ended up being paid $15,125 between August 2013 to November 2014, before officials were alerted that she had not cared her daughter in two years.

Abbey pleaded ”no contest” and was sentenced to felony probation. She will now pay restitution to the California Department of Health Care Services.
