Capitola will ask voters to approve sales tax extension
Voters in Capitola will be asked to extend the City’s one quarter cent (0.25%) sales tax. On Thursday, the City Council voted to place the measure on the November 8 ballot.
The city estimates that extending the sales tax would generate about $1 million dollars per year in General Fund revenues. The money would be used to protect the city’s wharf and beaches from storms and rising sea levels, maintain full police staffing levels and improve parks, sidewalks and bike lanes.
To pass, the measure will need approval from 50% of those who cast ballots.
