Salinas police arrest DUI hit and run driver

The Tuesday crash of a car and motorcycle ended in the arrest of a driver on felony DUI and felony hit and run charges.

Salinas police officers say Mateo Perez, 31, was under the influence when he turned his car into the path of a motorcycle at the corner of Boronda Road and Rider Avenue. The vehicles crashed and Perez left the scene.

A witness provided police with a photo of the car showing its license plate. Officers later located the car parked at Natividad Creek Park. Perez was positively identified as the driver. Police say his blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit.

The 22-year-old driver of the motorcycle, whose name was not released, was seriously injured. Perez was booked into Monterey County Jail.
