UPDATE: 20-year-old victim in Salinas’ 16th homicide of the year identified

UPDATE 6/20/16 4:31 AM: Police have identified the shooting victim as 20-year-old Jorge Matias.

PREVIOUS STORY: A 20-year-old man died Saturday morning after being shot several times on Elkington Ave in Salinas, according to Salinas Police. Following the shooting, the victim was taken to nearby hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.

The shooting appears to be gang related, according to police.

This is the city’s 16th homicide of the year.

Investigators told KION that there were no witnesses on scene and are asking anyone who has any further information to come forward to the police.
