Police looking for leads to find luring suspect
Salinas police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man they say is trying to lure female teenagers into his car.
Since April, there have been six cases reported near El Sausal and La Paz Middle Schools. Police say all of the incidents have happened on school days, between 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Police say the way the victims have been approached in one of two ways. Either the suspect drove past them, pulled over and gotten out. He asked for directions, then tried to lure them in. Or he drove up to the victims, and while remaining in the car, demanded them to get in.
None of the victims have actually gotten into his car.
The suspect description has varied. Police say he’s a white or light-skinned Hispanic man between the ages of late 20s to mid 30s. He has been seen clean shaven to having a full beard. His car is described as a light or faded, teal to green four-door sedan, possibly a Nissan. Police say in one instance, the suspect vehicle was a red truck.
Police have conducted surveillance in the area with marked and undercover operations. Police say they’ve contacted several men, but no suspects have been identified. Police are asking neighbors to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity.
