Not everyone is happy to see Hillary Clinton in Salinas
With signs and chants, locals, civil rights activists and Bernie Sanders supporters spoke out against the former secretary of state.
They believe she will send American jobs to other countries, that she supports fracking and the deportation of immigrants. Three people were escorted out of the rally, one by Salinas Police Chief Kelly McMillin.
Despite protestors, there were hundreds of supporters inside and outside the rally on Wednesday. For more on that story, click here.
“I do not support Hillary because every one of her policies is against the American people,” said Alfonson Gutierrez. “She flip flops on everything that she proposes to the American people. It’s clearly stated in the literature that she lies.”
Protestors also told KION they will not vote for Hillary because she’s been deceitful with her emails and backed harmful policies while her husband was in office.
“If you think about NAFTA, which went in under Bill Clinton, we lost so many jobs in the city of Salinas,” said civil rights activist Margaret Serna Bonetti. “I mean across the United States, but in the city of Salinas, many of our jobs fled here. As a result of it, we have a very high unemployment rate that has not improved.”
Some say they plan to support Sanders because he’s supporting the disenfranchised in this country.
Some complained that the protestors were so loud that at times they could not hear what Hillary was saying through the speakers. Several people were thrown out of the rally.
