Woman attacked by man with golf club in Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz Police arrested a homeless man for attacking a woman with a golf club.

According to police, it happened outside a coffee shop on Pacific Avenue at 12:50 p.m. Friday, May 13 th .

Police said the suspect, 28-year-old Landon Horseman, approached the woman who was sitting on a bench outside the shop and then used the club to hit her on the head and shoulder.

Horseman hit the lady so hard that it caused the golf club to break. Horseman then walked away after yelling at the woman.

Witnesses called 911 and followed the suspect until officers arrived.

Officers then quickly found Horseman a few blocks away and he was taken into custody at gunpoint.

Police said the attack was unprovoked and random. Horseman did not know the victim.

The 23-year-old woman who was attacked was visiting from Oxnard. She is now being treated at Dominican Hospital. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

Police said Horseman told officers he has been in Santa Cruz for less than a week. The only identification he had on him was from Washington State.

Horseman is now in the Santa Cruz County jail.
