Relay for Life: Attack of the Kids
Relay for Life is gearing up across the Central Coast.First up, Relay for Life of the Monterey Peninsula, and for the first time in years, there’s a kids team.
They’re called “Attack of the Kids,” and their strategy is energy.
“So in the last few years we haven’t had a kids team for the Relay for Life of Monterey Peninsula, so they bring a very unique experience to the event and we’re super excited to have their energy,” Relay for Life Community Manager Jessica Ruiz said.
Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event.
“We are raising money to help fight cancer for everybody,” Danica Dahle said. She is one of about 8 kids on the team. Most of the members go to Tularcitos Elementary School in Carmel Valley.
Teams raise money leading up to their communities big event.
“We’ve been doing bake sales and we’ve been doing the bottle coin challenge,” Ky Dahle Said.
And that big event is a 24-hour campout where teams take turns walkingor running around a track to honor survivors and fight back against cancer.
Attack of the Kids also made a video to raise awareness. The kids discussed how cancer has touched all of their lives. Cancer remains the leading cause of death around the world.
“It’s important to take a step and fight back against this disease,” Ruiz said. “I know this community is very passionate about it and we’re inviting everyone to come out and take a stand.”
