UPDATE: Man killed in 11th Salinas homicide of the year identified

UPDATE 5/4/16 7:48 AM: Officials have identified the man who was killed as 27-year-oldMarcos Jesus Martinez-Ruiz.

The second victim, a 21-year-old man was transported to Natividad Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He is in stable, but critical condition.

The victims have no history with the Salinas Police Department and there are no indications they are involved in gang activity.

Investigators say the victims were seated in their parked car, listening to music when the suspect vehicle drove up and fired several gunshots into the driver’s side of the car.

A dark colored SUV or truck left the area, going northbound on Machado Way or westbound on Acosta Street.

UPDATE 10:44 PM: Salinas police have confirmed a victim in a double shooting has died Tuesday night.

Just after 9:00 p.m., police said two men were shot multiple times on the 1000 block of Acosta Street, while sitting inside a car. Police tell KION one of the victims died on scene. The other victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A shooting investigation is underway in East Salinas Tuesday night.

It happened just after 9 p.m. on the 1000 block of Acosta Street. Police said two men were shot multiple times while sitting inside a car there.

Both men were taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

No suspect information is available at this time.
