Hundreds of anti-Donald Trump protesters storm GOP convention in Bay Area
Hundreds of protesters crowded the streets trying to block Donald Trump from entering the GOP California Convention on Friday in the Bay Area.
“I think there’s a lot of people that are standing up against ignorance and bigotry and sexism. That’s why I’m here,” said protester Miguel Arzabe.
Trump was forced to make an unusual entrance. Escorted by security, he had to hop a fence and enter through a back entrance at the Hyatt Regency in Burlingame.
“That was not the easiest entrance I’ve ever made,” Trump said. “We went under a fence and through a fence. Oh boy, it felt like I was crossing the border, actually.”
But he’s not the only one at the convention looking for votes. John Kasich spoke Friday night and was asked about his stance on abortion.
“I’ve been pro-life all of my career except in the case of rape, incest and harm to life of the mother. In terms of women’s health, while we may not be funding Planned Parenthood, we’re not defunding women’s health in Ohio,” said Kasich.
None of the candidates yet have the delegates they need to secure the nomination and that’s making California an important stop.
The June 7th California primary could have a big impact on the race. Ted Cruz and his running mate Carly Fiorina will be speaking at the convention Saturday.
