Post graduation, where students are headed

News Channel 5 spoke with dozens of graduating seniors at California State Monterey Bay about their plans after they graduate. Some students said they felt nervous, others were optimistic, but most just didn’t want to move back home.

“My home town is wonderful, it’s a small town though, and like moving back to the small town is like you get stuck in the small town vortex,” said CSUMB Senior, Kiley Erikson.

Students said there is so much that needs to be done from now until graduation that most seniors try to block the big day out of their mind.

“Eew yeah it’s less than a month haha,” said Erikson.

But ready or not, Angel Houts said he’ll try to be proactive when it comes to his plans after college.

“I have faith that I’ll find a job and just work from there. I’m not super worried about that. I’m just stressed because there’s two weeks left and there’s so much to do,” said CSUMB Senior, Angel Houts.

Right now studying for finals is top priority. CSUMB’s library was full of stressed out students juggling papers, exams, and job searching. Career advisers said they’re office is open for anyone in need of help.

“Career advisers here and the student success advisers we’re available to help students get rolling with their job search to get ready to get that confidence and we also make our services available to alumni as well,” said Career Adviser, Thomas Rogers.

“The first week I was here I was meeting with the career services department on campus trying to get my resume set up trying to get my LinkedIn set up trying to interview well, and trying to really hit all those facets and luckily at CSUMB we have that available,” said Senior, Andrew Stuck.

Campus officials said 2016 grads are looking at a better job market than last year but Senior, Cassie Navarro still hasn’t found a job with her psychology degree.

“I know there’s not a whole lot that you can do with psychology and I know that I’m going to have to go to grad school but I’m probably going to have to take a year off and kind of figure that out,” said Navarro.

CSUMB seniors will be graduating May 21. The career center wants to remind graduates, they can always come back to campus for career advice.
