Marine amputee will be defending title at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

Liam Dwyer was patrolling a Taliban stronghold area when he stepped on an IED. The explosion amputated his left leg, and damaged his other leg and both arms. Told by one therapist that he would never walk again, Dwyer is now gearing up to defend his title at this year’s Continental Monterey Grand Prix.

“It’s a track that has a lot of history to it. And to be one of those drivers actually racing there i think is pretty awesome. Another thing with that track is the way it all flows together. We don’t have the outright top speed that other cars do, but we go through the corners much faster than the other cars. And that’s really why I like the track because it suits my Mazda,” said Dwyer.

The Doctor who taught Dwyer to walk again will be at the Mazda Raceway to see him compete for the first time ever. The event kicks off April 29 th .
