Salinas hit and run victim identified

UPDATE03/29/16:The Monterey County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal hit-and-run in Salinas earlySaturdaymorning.

Antonio Soriano Hernandez, 65, was struck and killed while crossing East Market Street near King Street, according to Salinas police.

Investigators now believe the suspect was driving a silver compact car and not a small white pick-up truck as witnesses first reported.

According to police, Hernandez was a transient in Salinas.

The coroner has been unable to locate anymembersof Hernandez’s family.

PREVIOUS STORY: A hit-and-run in Salinas resulted in the death of one man early Saturday morning, according to police.

Investigators said a 65-year-old man was crossing East Market Street near King Street when he was struck by a suspect driving a small white pick-up truck around 4:30 a.m.

Emergency personnel pronounced him dead on scene.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
