New Seaside In-N-Out causes traffic headaches for some Monterey neighbors
In-N-Out Burger is one of the most popular fast food chains in California and since a location opened in Seaside on Del Monte Avenue, cars have been lined up.
Even though the burger joint is in Seaside, it seems Monterey neighborhoods are feeling the effects from the restaurant right on the border.
“Traffic’s been plugged up so I have to take alternate routes to get home,” said Monterey resident Michael Weaver.
Weaver lives down the street from the new In-N-Out. He said parking has always been a problem in the area but now it’s worse. Burger fans are parking on Monterey neighborhood streets like Encina Avenue and Virgin Avenue.
“It seems like a long way for people to walk to park over here,” said Weaver.
But walking they are. Growing frustrated, residents are taking to social media to post about the noise and trash. There’s even talk of a petition to get the restaurant out.
But not everyone is bothered by their new neighbor.
“It’s just something new and exciting for the area and I think it’s going to be a great asset and we love it,” said Monterey resident Gloria Trembley.
Trembley and her husband run a church on Virgin Avenue around the corner from the In-N-Out.
“The place was just packed. It was great. They are very organized, very friendly and they seem to know what they are doing,” said Trembley.
Still, other residents said they realize their quiet little neighborhood will never be the same and just hope some of the hype will die down soon.
“When you get in the bumper to bumper traffic just take a breath, put on some mellow music because it doesn’t do any good to get uptight,” said Weaver.
