Greenfield man admits to pimping and selling bootleg DVDs
A Greenfield man has pled guilty to pimping and selling bootleg movies in Greenfield and King City.
Jose Leonel Romero, 36, will be sentenced to 3 years in state prison in April.
According to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, Romero and his girlfriend would get prostitutes to work at various homes where someone was stationed to direct men to them in exchange for money.
Romero also stored thousands of bootleg DVDs of major motion pictures in Gilroy that he would then sell at the brothels and throughout Monterey County.
In November of 2015, a multiagency task force conducted an undercover operation. Authorities arrested Deybi Gomez, 24, Greenfield, and Simon Miranda, 37, King City, who were acting as doormen.
Miranda was already sentenced to 16 months in state prison. The DA’s office expects Gomez will also be sentenced to 16 months on March 22, 2016.
