Salinas Fire Chief gives update on Dick Bruhn fire
Things are getting back to normal after fire consumed the historic Dick Bruhn building on February 13.
Salinas Fire Chief Ed Rodriguez gave an update Thursday on the cleanup progress. As of Thursday morning, Main and Alisal Streets are fully open.
Surrounding streets were closed for many days after the fire. Several nearby businesses were even without power for a while. Last Saturday, when most of the area re-opened, the Salinas community came out to support those businesses. Salinas Mayor Joe Gunter said he was very grateful.
Meanwhile, the Dick Bruhn building is still fenced off with “Danger – Do Not Enter” signs. The sidewalks are not accessible on the Main and Alisal sides.
A security guard will be remain on duty at the building until 5 p.m. Friday. Also on Friday, Salinas Fire officials will meet with the owner of the building, Gerry Kehoe, to talk about securing the building, bracing it internally, and removing the rest of the debris.
