High speed chase through Salinas ends near Highway 101

Early Monday morning, Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies said a homeless man, who was recklessly driving a motorcycle, was arrested on E. Laurel Drive and N. Main Street in Salinas.

Deputies said Alberto Garcia Ramirez, 23, failed to pull over and led deputies on a high speed chase through Salinas and on Highway 101. They said Ramirez reached speeds of 100 miles per hour on city streets and about 120 mph on the highway, in a chase spanning 28 miles.

Deputies said the pursuit ended when Ramirez hit a street sign at the Market St. off-ramp.

Ramirez was taken to Natividad Medical Center and later booked into the Monterey County Jail.
