Another day in court for Huntsman and Curiel on murder and child abuse charges

Tami Huntsman, 40, and Gonzalo Curiel, 17, returned to Monterey County Superior Court this morning. Their lawyers tried to set a date for a preliminary hearing. That date was not set. Lawyers on both sides say they still have lots of evidence yet to go through.

“At the arraignment we received approximately a thousand documents,” Kay Duffy, Huntsman’s attorney said. “Those included reports and photos and today we received a terabyte worth of further evidence which I have not looked at so I can’t say what’s on that terabyte, however we do know that there’s some audio and video but I can’t describe what they are until I’ve had the opportunity to review it.”

Huntsman and Curiel face two counts of willful, deliberate and premeditated murder, with special allegations of torture and multiple murder and two counts of torture in the deaths of 3-year-old Delylah Tara and 6-year-old Shaun Tara.

They also face two counts of conspiracy to commit a crime and one count of child abuse, including a special allegation of great bodily injury, for the case involving a 9-year-old girl who survived.

Curiel, 17, is being tried as an adult. Huntsman could face the death penalty. The next court date is March 4th.
