Man poses as Greenfield Police Officer in IRS scam

The Greenfield Police Department is warning residents about an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) scam involving a fake police officer.

The department says a suspect is calling locals, falsely identified himself as a Greenfield Police Officer named Paul Watson. That suspect then claims he is calling on behalf of the IRS., warning the recipient that an arrest warrant will be issued if money is not put into the bank account of a person named Raymond Scott.

Police want the public to know that there is no officer at the department named Paul Watson, and that all the claims made during the calls are false. They also want residents to know that the caller ID function will display the scam call as ”Greenfield Police” and to not answer, or hang up right away.

An investigation is underway into the scam.
