UPDATE: Suspicious item in Seaside deemed safe
UPDATE 2/12/2016 11:40 AM: The Monterey County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad told KION the suspicious item they were investigating turned out to be a cooler with some food items, party streamers, and a few other things in it.
The bomb squad x-rayed the cooler and determined there was no threat. Commander John Thornburg said the bomb squad was originally called out because of the placement of the cooler near a government vehicle.
All roads are now back open.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Monterey County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad confirmed with KION that there’s a possible bomb threat on Charles Avenue in Seaside.
The bomb squad is on scene investigating. Authorities have asked businesses in the area to evacuate. Canyon Del Rey Blvd from Fremont Blvd to Hilby Ave is closed, and Fremont Blvd from Kimball Ave to Hilby Ave.
