Santa Cruz police arrest two suspects in a shooting investigation

The Santa Cruz Police Department is investigating a shooting on Berry St. near Avalon St. as gang motivated

Officers said it happened Wednesday, February 10, at 10:30 p.m.

A 20-year-old Santa Cruz resident was hit in the arm and taken to a Bay Area trauma center. The injuries are not life-threatening.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots fired in the area. A stray bullet went into a nearby home and got lodged into a wall. The family was home at the time, but no one was hurt.

Two suspects were later arrested at an apartment complex on Button Street.

Police identified 20-year-old Misael Acosta-Vences of Santa Cruz as the suspected shooter. He is now facing several charges including attempted murder.

22-year-old Santa Cruz resident Jocelyn Acosta was arrested as an accessory to the crime. She is also facing several charges including attempted murder and participating in a criminal street gang.
