Central Coast law enforcement agencies increase patrols for Super Bowl 50
Sports bars across the Central Coast are expecting big crowds Super Bowl Sunday.
“They go out to a house party, they have a couple drinks, they come out to bar and then they want drink a little bit more,” said Dubbers Sports Bar manager Nic Monacivs.
Monacivs said while people go to bars to have fun, it’s important to be responsible and keep an eye on how much people are drinking.
“The bartenders communicate with the servers or the servers communicate to the bartenders ‘hey I’ve given this person so many drinks I think we should probably cut them off or keep an extra eye on this person,” said Monacivs.
Salinas police said Super Bowl Sunday is busy every year, but this year the department willstep up DUI patrols all weekend.
“Because the Super Bowl is so close, you know, we have a lot more people in town, a lot more Super Bowl parties going all weekend,” said Sgt. Gerry Ross.
All agencies in Monterey and San Benito counties will have extra officers working paid for by a state grant.Ross said people have more ways than ever now to get home safely.
“It is completely preventable. It’s a choice you make. If you’re going to drink, don’t drive, it’s as simple as that, really,” said Ross.
Just in case, Monacivs said they always have a notebook filled with numbers of local cabs handy and they’ll even make the call for you.
“We don’t want anyone to ever reach that limit where kind of putting themselves or others in danger,” said Monacivs.
