UPDATE: Woman identified in deadly Salinas pedestrian crash

UPDATE 1/28/2016 9:30 AM: Salinas Police have identified the woman killed in the crash asKathleen Risler. Police say she’s from Salinas and was 64-years-old.

ORIGINAL STORY: A 50-year-old woman is dead after a crash in Salinas.

It happened in the 1500 block of North Main Street at approximately 9:15 p.m. Monday night.

A 39-year-old man was traveling northbound when the woman attempted to cross eastbound across the lanes in front of him. She was not in a crosswalk.

The man was unable to avoid hitting her and she was launched 35 feet off of the front windshield.

Salinas Fire Department and AMR officials tried to revive her, but she was transported to Natividad Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.

The driver immediately stopped to cooperate with officials. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor.
