Highway 1/17 widening underway
Shoulder widening and resurfacing is underway on Highway 1 and 17.
The project, which will create two dedicated lanes on northbound Highway 1 from the Fishhook, resumed Monday night.
This week, crews will be removing trees and doing some excavation work. For the following two weeks, there will be overnight work on the barriers in front of the bridge columns. (Caltrans officials said that work will not be loud.) There will also be daytime work on underground and electrical maintenance.
Here’s the breakdown of closures for the two-phase project from Caltrans:
Phase 1: Approx. 2 Months
The northbound Hwy. 1 loop ramp (Fishhook) has been reduced to one lane and is subject to full closures Monday through Friday from 8:00 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. Residents can expect considerable noise, depending on the roadwork being performed. Motorists may detour onto Pasatiempo Drive. Southbound Hwy. 17 will to be reduced to one lane Monday through Friday from 8 p.m. until 5:30 a.m.
Phase 2: Approx. 2 Months
Southbound Hwy. 17 will be reduced to one lane Monday through Friday from 10 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. The northbound Hwy. 1 ramp (Fishhook) will be subject to lane and full closures Monday through Friday from 8:00 p.m. until 5:30 am. Motorists may detour onto Pasatiempo Drive.
Of course, all of this work is weather permitting.
Overall, drivers should expect delays that don’t exceed 15 to 20 minutes, according to Caltrans.
