Five people detained after drug investigation at Salinas apartment complex
A drug investigation led to a pursuit and SWAT activity at a Salinas apartment complex.
According to the Salinas Police Department, officers were at the Pointe at Harden Ranch apartment complex around 4 p.m. Wednesday after getting complaints about drug trafficking in one of the apartments.
Police then started following a vehicle leaving the complex and a pursuit ensued.
Police said the driver rammed into an officer’s car and sped away before crashing on Crazy Horse Canyon Road.
Officers found drugs inside the vehicle.
Police later went back to the apartment complex to serve a search warrant. SWAT teams were then called in because of the criminal history of the suspects.
“The problem was that we didn’t know if there were more occupants inside the apartment or not and based on some of the criminal histories of the people involved and not knowing if anyone else was still inside the apartment and not coming out, we decided to be on the safe side and utilize our SWAT team for making the entry,” said Commander Stan Cooper with the Salinas Police Department.
Five people are now in custody on drug-related charges.
