Drunk man with fake gun prompts brief high school lockdown in Salinas

UPDATE 1/12/2016 5:18 PM: A man armed with a fake gun boarded a Monterey-Salinas Transit but near Salinas High School Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

Police said Vicente Vistal, 59, was initially seen urinating in front of kids near Clay Liquors Market around 1:45 PM, before boarding the bus and claiming to have two guns on him.

The high school was locked down for about thirty minutes while police and a K9 arrested Vistal.

He was taken to the hospital and later booked into the Monterey County Jail for probation violation and resisting arrest. Officers said Vistal had been drinking.

UPDATE 1/12/2016 2:46 PM: Salinas Police said a man who had been drinking, got onto a bus near Salinas High School Tuesday afternoon and started talking about having two guns.

Officers said the bus driver called 911 and police responded to the scene. They said passengers and the driver got off the bus while the suspect stayed inside, until a K9 took him down.

Police said the suspect only had a fake gun on him and ended up with some minor injuries. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to go to jail.

Salinas High School was placed on lockdown for about 30 minutes but the lockdown has been lifted.

A witness said the man didn’t pay for his bus fare.

ORIGINAL STORY: Salinas High School was placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon because of an incident involving police on South Main Street.

The school confirms the lockdown has since been lifted.
