UPDATE: Gas leak in Santa Cruz neighborhood Tuesday morning

UPDATE 1/12/2016 11:24 AM: Pacific Gas and Electric said a construction company worker caused a gas leak in a Santa Cruz neighborhood Tuesday morning, after rupturing a 1/2 inch plastic line.

Crews said the line was hit in the 100 block of Effey St. at 8:57 AM and was capped off at 9:20 AM.

No injuries were reported and PG&E is investigating the incident. They said the contractor did not call 811 before digging, which is required by law.

ORIGINAL STORY: Santa Cruz County Emergency Communications confirms crews are responding to a gas leak Tuesday morning in the 100 block of Effey St.

PG&E has been called out to the scene to evaluate the leak.
