UPDATE: 22-year-old arrested in deadly Watsonville hit and run

UPDATE 1/11/2016 12 PM: Watsonville Police arrested Diego Santino Sanchez, 22, Watsonville, for DUI, deadly hit and run, and vehicular manslaughter following a crash Saturday.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Watsonville Police Department is investigating a deadly hit and run.

On January 9, officers responded to a two-car crash at Main Street and East Lake Avenue involving a Ford truck and a Honda Accord. A witness told police the driver of the Honda ran off.

Both of the passengers in the Ford truck were ejected, and the male passenger died on the scene. The female passenger was air lifted to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries.

Officers later found the driver of the Honda at his home. He was also badly injured and air lifted to a trauma center.

The Watsonville Police Department is still investigating, but detectives believe alcohol/drugs were a factor.
