Gov. Jerry Brown releases state spending plan

Governor Jerry Brown proposed his budget for the next fiscal year and it’s coming in at $122.6 billion.

The spending plan aims to repair roads through a new $65 fee on electric and gas-electric hybrid cars and changes to gas taxes. Together, that would generate $3 billion.

Medical marijuana is another key part. His proposal puts $24.6 million toward developing the state’s first licensing and operating rules for cultivation, dispensaries and other marijuana-related businesses.

Schools will see an increase for the second year in a row. Brown is allocating $71.6 billion in general fund money for K-12 education and community colleges. He’s also proposing to keep tuition flat at UC and CSU schools.

These are just some of the highlights, but one thing is for sure — months of debate are sure to follow.
