Santa Cruz Police investigating two shootings

The Santa Cruz Police Department is investigating two shootings that happened over the holiday weekend.

According to police, officers responded to the area of West Cliff Drive and Swift Street around 8:27 p.m. on New Year’s Day after report of shots fired.

Police later discovered the suspects followed the victim who was driving on Swift Street. A shooter then fired at the victim’s car. No one was hurt.

The suspect vehicle was described as a black or dark blue Dodge Charger with tinted windows and black rims.

The shooter was described as a Hispanic man wearing a black beanie. Two other people including the driver were inside the car.

Police said the second shooting happened at 11:34 p.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at an apartment on La Fonda Avenue.

The shooter fired into the apartment. No one inside was hit, but a bullet did strike the rear fence. It then shattered the sliding glass door and lodged inside a living room sofa.

Officers found 12 bullet casings throughout the street.

Witnesses told investigators they saw a dark colored four door sedan drive away from the area.

Police are asking anyone with information on the shootings to call the Santa Cruz Police Department’s investigators at 831-420-5820.
