Tip leads to arrest of parolee with gun, drugs and burglary tools
A tip about a suspicious car led to the arrest of a parolee with a gun, drugs and burglary tools in Santa Cruz.
Santa Cruz patrol officers arrested James Smith, 22, on Dec. 18. Smith had heroin and a digital scale in is pockets. Officers said they also found an unloaded .22 caliber ATI handgun in his car, and a magazine and ammo in the back seat.
Officers also located a number of burglary tools including bolt cutters, a torch, an air bag car door opener, and flashlights.
Smith was booked into jail and officers are investigating if he also had stolen items on him.
The Santa Cruz Police Department continues to encourage community members to make tips.
