Suspect in custody after SWAT standoff in Soledad
A convicted felon is behind bars, after a coincidental discovery in Soledad.
On Tuesday afternoon, an officer attempted to stop a minor on foot, who immediately fled from him on the 200 block of Second Street. During the pursuit, he threw a loaded revolver in the front yard of 220 Second St. The juvenile continued to jump over fences and run through yards before he was located and arrested in the area of Third Street and Monterey.
While later retracing his path to locate more evidence, a Soledad police officer spotted a sawed off shotgun inside the home another home on Second Street.
More law enforcement officers responded to the scene and were able to determine that 43-year-old Robert Bagwell was still inside the home and was likely in possession of the firearm.
Officers established a perimeter around the home and tried to communicate with the suspect. The suspect refused to respond to their commands. A search warrant was prepared and the SWAT team with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department took over the perimeter.
At about 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Bagwell came out of the home unarmed and was taken into custody. Officers recovered a sawed-off shotgun and multiple rounds of ammunition.
Bagwell was processed and booked for six charges, including felon in possession of a firearm and gang enhancements.
