Monterey Regional Airport completes runway updating

On Thursday, the Monterey Regional Airport said federally mandated runway safety improvements had been officially completed.

Airport General Manager Mike La Pier said the Instrument Landing System is now being used, after work on the runway was completed ahead of schedule and within budget.

Airport managers said the runway is now up to FAA standards, as required for all commercial-use airports. The deadline to complete the work was December 31, 2015.
