Tres Pinos teen killed in Monday morning crash, CHP says

A 17-year-old male from Tres Pinos was killed during a crash Monday morning in Gilroy, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers said the teen, was driving a 1988 Chevy on Bolsa Rd. north of Bloomfield Ave. at about 60 mph around 8:12 am. They said the Chevy veered across the solid double yellow lines and sideswiped a 2002 Nissan, driven by Miriam Tinoco, 31, of Gilroy.

CHP said the Chevy continued traveling southbound and ended up hitting a tree at the bottom of an embankment.

Officers said the teen was pronounced dead at the scene and it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
