Special delivery: Baby born at Santa Cruz County Sheriff Substation

A newborn named Lucas will have a great story to tell for the rest of his life. Early Monday morning, Lucas decided it was time to come out and his parents pulled into the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office substation in Felton for the delivery.

Mom Michelle Missman said there was no way they would have made it to the hospital.

“He was ready to come,” she said over the phone.

Dad Charlie Missman knew just what to do. A deputy fire marshal out of San Francisco, he delivered his baby boy. Santa Cruz County sheriff deputies, Felton firefighters, and AMR medics helped the Missman’s after the delivery.

Lucas is the Missman’s second child. Mom Michelle and baby Lucas are doing very well. They’re now at Dominican Hospital, and even got a visit from Lt. Kelly Kent and Sheriff Jim Hart.

“It was quick and there was no waiting,” Michelle said. “We are just thankful for all who were involved.”
