Millions projected to Cyber Monday Shop from work
“I did place a couple of orders this morning,” said Amy Eldredge.
It’s projected that more than 120 million people plan to shop this Cyber Monday.
“So much easier for me to stay in my jammies, have my coffee, click, click, click,” said Eldredge.
According to Adobe this Cyber Monday we are on track to hit a record $3 billion in online sales.
Out of stock items are already at an all-time high.
You hear Cyber Monday and you expect it to start today but a lot of it started a couple of days ago so it was already sold out,” said Eldredge.
Some are taking advantage of the digital deals from the comfort of their home while others are shopping at work.
“Me and my boss do it together so I won’t get in trouble,” said Brianna.
“No I’m a barber I don’t get to be on the computer and cut hair,” said Lelyn Furey.
Retail studies find that at least 50% of employed consumers say they plan to shop online while at work.
“You have a work computer you can’t help it,” said Eldredge. “You have a computer right there at your fingertips.”
While some employers have strict policies in place to deter or prohibit staff from hunting down discounts on the web, Best Buy in Salinas says they aren’t looking over their employees shoulders.
“Being Best Buy, their own device, their own phones is part of the shopping experience here for our customers,” said Best Buy general manager Christian Gott. “So they’re able to help out customers using their own devices and obviously do some shopping as well.”
Some experts say employees will shop an average of four hours while on the job, but Best Buy says they’re not that lenient.
“You’re not shopping when the customer needs help, the customer takes priority,” said Gott.
Shoppers did not necessarily have to get online for Cyber Monday deals.
For example, Best Buy price matched online sales with products in the store.
