Vallejo man arrested after Salinas motel shooting
UPDATE 11/24/15 11:20 AM: A Vallejo man is accused of attempted homicide in Salinas. He was booked into the Monterey County Jail Tuesday morning.
The story started just hours before his arrest. Salinas Police said an officer was on routine patrol around 2 a.m. when he witnessed a vehicle speeding away from the Rodeo Inn on North Main Street.
According to the Salinas Police Department, the Rodeo Inn is known for criminal activity.
The officer pulled over the vehicle on Highway 101 north of East Market Street and started talking with the driver, Calvin Harris, 28, Vallejo.
During that time, the department said other officers were called out to the Rodeo Inn for a shooting victim. There, officers found a 28-year-old woman shot in the leg. They also found a 45-year-old man who was grazed by a bullet.
Police said Harris matched the description of the shooter and was positively identified. Officers also found a semi-automatic firearm matching the caliber of round used in the shooting.
Harris is a previously convicted felon. He was booked into the Monterey County Jail for attempted homicide, felon in possession of a firearm and domestic violence.
