Arrest made following homicide in Watsonville Sunday

Watsonville Police investigators arrested a 16-year-old suspect they believe was involved in a homicide Sunday night.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting around 11 p.m. Sunday on the 200 block of Clifford Avenue. Police found Mario Daniel Hernandez, 19, Watsonville, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Hernandez was taken to Watsonville Community Hospital and later died.

On Monday, detectives responded to Freedom Boulevard and arrested the 16-year-old suspect. The suspect is from Watsonville, but will not be named due to his age.

Police said the motive is still unknown at this time. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Watsonville Police at 831-471-1151.
