Former Salinas mayor running for State Assembly

Former Cabinet Secretary, State Assembly Member and Salinas Mayor Anna Caballero announced Thursday she’s running for State Assembly.

Caballero is vying for the seat in the 30th district.

Caballero resigned earlier this month from Governor Brown’s Cabinet as Secretary of the California Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency.

She says if elected, tackling the affordable housing shortage impacting working families will be one of her main priorities.

“They’re paying way too much of their income to be able to just exist,” said Caballero. “Many of those units are severely overcrowded so gonna focus a lot of attention on that.”

Caballero says she did not decide to run for congress because she wanted to come home and be back in Salinas.
